Health & Healing

Health is the free flow of energy through the body and can be achieved through an ever evolving mind, body, spirit balance or equilibrium.

Your body has incredible untapped potential to heal, that potential lies in a place of peace, deep inside you. It is always there, always accessible. Silence unlocks the body's innate capacity to heal and helps you move towards greater inner peace, guidance and well-being.

Power to Change Interview

I recently wrote a chapter in a book called Power to Change.  It includes my chapter - 5 P's to Making Life Enhancing Changes as well as chapters from 18 other experts in various modalities of creating change.

In addition to outlining how to facilitate change, I answer the question - 'why do people often wait until they have a life-threatening diagnosis, like cancer, to make life-enhancing changes?'. The 5 P's are: Pain, Power, Permission, Passion and Purpose.  Please use this link to listen to my interview: http://www.thepowertochangetelesummit.com/audioseries.htm

Dying to Heal – Anita Moorjani’s Unusual Cancer Treatment for Stage 4 Lymphoma

Part 2 of a 2-Part Article

Her Miraculous Healing

Now we come to the part of Anita’s story that is more difficult to wrap our rational mind around. How could the physical healing that Anita experienced happen so quickly? Her organs were shutting down, she had lesions all over her body, she had large tumors but all this healed rapidly (the lesions took a bit more time but they too eventually disappeared and she did not need the plastic surgery the doctors were recommending).

A Course in Miracles (a manuscript of conversations Helene Schucman purports to have had with Jesus, published in 1976) puts forth some very interesting notions in terms of how and why miracles happen. The first principle of the Course is; there is no order of difficulty to miracles. The Course explains that there is no scale, no difference in the magnitude or ratings of occurrences – they are all the same. It also claims that; miracles demonstrate that learning has occurred under the right guidance. It confirms that; learning is invisible but what has been learned can be recognized by its visible or physical results. So if we apply this logic, we can see that during Anita’s NDE she learned what she was meant to learn about herself, about life and about love. The visible or tangible proof is the healing that she manifested upon returning to her body.

The Role of Disease

I find the philosophy from A Course in Miracles, of learning and then seeing the physical ramifications of the lesson, very interesting as it reinforces the importance of the insights one can learn from disease. It also helps explain how a shift in terms of our own perception can render the disease no longer relevant. It appears that when a disease no longer serves a role or a higher purpose, the body becomes free to heal itself, a process that is a part of the body’s innate intelligence or programming. I personally believe that disease can be a sign or a cry for help from the body. It is the body demanding a change in order to deal with an imbalance or an issue like; a broken relationship, self-neglect, a stressful or unfulfilling job, etc… in order to return to wholeness and harmony. The book - No Ordinary Moments, A Peaceful Warrior’s Guide to Daily Life by Dan Milkman (H. J. Kramer Inc.1992) talks about the Rules for Being Human, which state; since Earth is a full-time school, every person or incident is our teacher. It furthers suggests that; if we don't learn the easy lessons, they get harder and, we will know we've learned a lesson when our actions change. Anita’s stage 4 cancer left her no choice but to learn, or to die. I have personally seen many cases where disease helps people to discover and live their truth, to learn what they need to learn - to slow down or to reflect or rebalance their priorities and their lives. If we apply the Rules for Being Human notions to disease, it follows that unless the lesson is learned and the insights are integrated and acted upon, deep and lasting healing cannot take place and the disease will likely continue to progress in order to get our attention and facilitate (or sometimes force) change. It follows then, that even if a cancer tumor is cut or burned out or otherwise medically treated, if it still has a role to play, it will likely not go away completely, until the lesson is learned (i.e. our actions change).

Anita’s Insights

In talking about her own recovery Anita shares that she now understands that the real you is not your body, the real you is your infinite self (often called your Soul). Her new belief is that our primary reality is not the physical world but rather the physical world is the result of our consciousness. Given that consciousness is not confined to time and space, time and space no longer represent limitations, thus allowing things to happen instantaneously. Anita states, “it’s only because we are focused on the physical body as being our primary reality that we believe that healing takes time”. Below are some other principles from A Course in Miracles that I feel specifically support Anita’s explanation of how spontaneous healing can take place.

  • Miracles transcend the body. They are sudden shifts into invisibility away from the bodily level. This is why they heal.
  • Miracles reawaken the awareness that the spirit, not the body, is the altar of truth. This is the recognition that leads to the healing power of miracles.
  • Miracles heal because they deny body-identification and affirm spirit-identification

Anita’s Message

Some of Anita’s most powerful messages for the world include, ‘we are all magnificent beings of pure love, love yourself so that you are in turn able to love others. Believe in your own magnificence and know that you only need to be yourself to serve the world in the most meaningful way possible’. Anita went through a lot of pain and suffering to learn these valuable lessons and I want to thank her for choosing to come back into her body after her NDE, to show us that miraculous healing is possible and to share her insights that are paradoxically simple yet so deep, profound and life changing.

She just launched her book Dying to be Me by Hay House Publishing (March, 2012) http://www.hayhouse.com/details.php?id=6029. It is an amazing and thought provoking book with more great insights and inspiring words from this courageous woman!

This is really great stuff!

The thing that made a deep impact on my life, about three years ago, was the discovery of something that I was more or less aware of already, but never fully appreciated, until my ex-girlfriend was diagnosed with malignant breast cancer and strongly recommended (scared into) having a mastectomy, to be followed by chemo and radiation therapy: how our bodies and minds are connected.

To keep a long story short: the night before the surgery, by a huge 'co-incidence', I came across a video interview from a doctor who explained a controversial theory on what causes disease. Basically, it boiled down to linking the emotional state of a person (or other mammal) with the physical state of the body (negative emotions 'trigger', what this doctor called, 'biological emergency programs', which the body itself uses as a support system during TEMPORARY emergency situations). He named his theory 'German New Medicine' (GNM). Anyway, when he described how, for instance, cells start to multiply, as part of these support programs, I immediately saw the significance with my ex-girlfriends cancer - I was aware of a big 'conflict' she had suffered at her work, to which she had at that time reacted with fear/anger, even 'rage', totally inconsistent with her 'normal' (loving) state of being. This situation had lasted for some time and it was about a half year later that her cancer was discovered during a routine mammogram test. We ended up leaving the conventional medical track and solving the conflict she had suffered (actually, it turned out that this conflict had almost completely solved itself - the other person involved was no longer working at the same department as my ex-girlfriend, but still, being aware OF this conflict helped my ex-girlfriend a lot to really leave it behind her).

Interesting in this regard is a study, which I found out about later, that demonstrates at least 22% of all breast cancer, if never detected, disappears by itself! (google for 'cancer disappears'). In the light of GNM, this comes as no surprise: many conflicts get solved by a change of circumstances, etc. For example, a child gets badly injured and has to stay in the hospital for some time. This could cause cell proliferation in the (left) breast of a (right handed) mother. The body would remove these cells automatically, after the mother sees that her child is out off danger, but if these 'cancer cells' were to be discovered by doctors, before the body had have a chance to complete its work... I personally know (and read about/came across) many cases like this.

And there are more things that support the GNM theory (for instance the findings and work of Dr. Coley, who, for instance, noticed and used the fact that in many cases of 'spontaneous regression', there's simultaneously a bout of fever (a main characteristic of the 'healing process as described by GNM), which he then 'generated' in his patients by using bacteria (read more about GNM to see the significance also of this). I would advice people, interested in this, to visit the learninggnm site, as a starting point.

By the way, my ex-girlfriend's mammogram was taken in April 2009 and today she's still in perfect health.

Since then, I've been studying things like the placebo/nocebo effect, the way spontaneous remission takes place, how 'modern medicine has no idea what causes disease (only treats symptoms), how stress (prolonged 'fight/flight reflex') and fear in general, are at the base of illness, how genes DO NOT control our lives, the power of love (and belief), etc. The way cancer gets supported by our own bodies should make it obvious that it's not a hostile, but a 'friendly' process (the immune system leaves cancer cells alone, genes that are regulating 'apoptosis' - cell death - and 'angiogenesis' - forming of new blood vessels - serve cancer, instead of taking action against it!). Instead, 'modern medicine' treats only the symptoms, not the cause, and even uses strong poison (chemo) and radiation - both known 'carcinogens' - as a means to get rid of cancer cells... Meanwhile, the doctor who came up with this 'GNM' theory lost his license soon after he tried to get his theory tested (beginning of the 80's), and even was imprisoned a few times; later on, a court order, issued to a German university, ordering them to test this theory, was never acted upon!).

Even if this theory wasn't 100% accurate, it still would have the benefit that it empowers people and takes their fear away. Love is indeed very strong medicine! And love (and compassion) is one of the first things I've noticed about this doctor and the way he's connected to other people. Many years after the discovery of his theory, he uttered some accusations against Jewish doctors and this was quickly used by his opponents to declare him 'insane'. But, of course, this had nothing to do with the validity of his observations (and verifications by him and other doctors) regarding the cause of disease. No doubt, the kind of 'man hunt' this doctor had to endure, would have broken men less brave and just than him...

The 'case' of Anita Moorjani shows ones more, in a very big way, the power of love and belief. The resemblance with the 'Law of Attraction', as described in 'the teachings of Abraham', by Esther Hicks, is also quite obvious and seems to a great extend to be confirmed by the testimony of Anita Moorjani. There's much more to say about all this, but for starters - to wake up people who are 'ill' and are reading this 'by accidence' - it should suffice.

God bless you all!
